Affordability and location are the primary advantages to living in the West Ash neighborhood, according to residents Ivy Boley and Zandra De Araujo.
“One of the most exciting things that sets West Ash apart from any other in Columbia is we are primarily single-family homes in an affordable neighborhood,” said Boley, who has lived in West Ash for 16 years.
DeAraujo, who has lived in West Ash for five years, added the neighborhood is “in walking or biking distance to everywhere.”
“There are two parks within walking distance, the farmer’s market, I-70 is a half mile away, the mall is a mile, we have an MKT trail head nearby,” she said. “The location cannot be beat. It’s a hidden gem.”
DeAraujo also praised the look of the neighborhood.
“The houses are great because they were built in a good era — they have a lot of character,” she said. “We have beautiful oaks and trees, the lots are big enough you can garden, but not so big that it’s overwhelming to maintain.”
The women described West Ash as a diverse and friendly neighborhood where residents look out for and visit with one another on a regular basis.
“If I walk down the street, I get invited to multiple barbecues,” Boley said.
